About Lorien Guitar Recovery, LLC
What started out as a desire to provide exceptional guitars that were affordable, evolved into a business providing a wide variety of refurbished musical instruments that are playable, affordable, accessible.
Saving the World, One Guitar at a Time.
Our Story
Started selling repaired and refurbished guitars in 2013 from our barn in the historic Mt. Hood foothill community of Boring, Oregon. We refurbish guitars, purchase factory-refurbished instruments, and resell them, beginning as an online used guitar outlet.
In 2015, we expanded to local outdoor markets until Covid. In 2022, we opened a music store in Boring, providing direct access to our instruments and repair services. In 2023, we expanded to selling, servicing, and renting Violins, Mandolins, Banjos, and band instruments.
In early 2026, we converted our company into an LLC, hoping to expand, but soon had to close our retail outlet due to conditions beyond our control. Today, we continue focusing on online sales while providing local repairs, instrument refurbishment, and limited local sales and rentals.
Our Evolution
The idea for LGR started in 2013. Working out of two offices in a pole barn in Boring, Oregon, I started buying used and discarded instruments, mostly guitars, and set up a process to refurbish them for resale. We realized early on that this was a viable business.
In 2014, I studied guitar maintenance and repair at the American School of Lutherie and became a dealer for the factory authorized refurbisher of new instruments to expand our inventory.
For the first few years we sold on-line through an eBay store. In 2015 we began participating in farmer’s markets, creating direct connections with customers. We launched our own website in 2017, relaunched it in 2019, and finally opened our first retail store in Boring, Oregon on September 22, 2022.
Our Mission
Instrument manufacturing can take its toll on the environment, and too many used instruments get rejected, tossed into closets, sent to thrift stores, or thrown away.
We believe every instrument deserves a second chance, and every aspiring musician deserves the opportunity to own a quality instrument at a fair price.
By reusing what would otherwise be discarded, we minimize waste, reduce our carbon footprint, and make music more accessible.
We also encourage music education through our Musicianship Program, providing low-cost rental instruments, quarterly instrument awards, and affordable instruments for public school music programs.
Our Refurbishing Process
Through our refurbish and refresh process, skilled instrument technicians take abandoned instruments and make them playable, sonically pleasing, and attractive while keeping them affordable.
Every instrument is carefully inspected for electronic, physical, playability, and hardware issues before restoration.
Each guitar or string instrument goes through a complete process that includes:
- Test for playability and functionality
- De-string instrument
- Flatten fretboard (if appropriate)
- Clean electronics (if applicable)
- Clean fretboard
- Oil rosewood fretboards
- Polish frets (if applicable)
- Replace or repair electronics and hardware
- Polish instrument
- Re-string, re-tune, and adjust for the best possible action
We also source factory-authorized refurbished instruments from brands including Fender, Guild, Gretsch, Breedlove, Recording King, Jackson, Squier, and Epiphone. Each instrument is professionally inspected and repaired before becoming available for sale.
